Rep. Walle Joins State House Colleagues to Block Passage of Destructive Redistricting Legislation
BOSTON, MA — On August 4th, Rep. Armando Walle joined fellow State Representatives to deny quorum in the Texas House and block passage of state leadership’s irregular mid-decade redistricting legislation.
Rep. Walle is one of several legislators attending the National Conference of State Legislators in Boston, Massachusetts, where he is connecting with lawmakers and legal experts from across the country to raise awareness about what is happening in Texas.
Representative Armando Walle (TX-140) issued the following statement:
“I have been immensely proud to serve the people of House District 140 since 2009. I consider it my duty and responsibility as a public servant and elected official to put the interests of the Texans who sent me here first.
“The Texans who sent me to Austin — my neighbors, friends and constituents — are being broken apart by these discriminatory and offensive maps. Congressional District 29, which contains all of House District 140, has been obliterated. My communities have been carved apart.
“Breaking quorum is an act of last resort and not something I do lightly. I truly feel the best way I can fulfill my duties as the elected voice for these communities is by doing whatever is in my power to stop these maps from becoming law.”
